Part 3
1.Ref the development at the Pughsville/Taylor Rd Intersections: I just got off the phone with the city planning department. Though we are probably all sorry to see the trees coming down, the developer is someone I met with about a year and a half ago. At that time he set up a meeting with interested community members to communicate his intent. A number of
representatives from local communities participated. Bottom line is that he plans two brick office buildings and a 7-eleven (Similar to the buildings and 7-11 on Portsmouth Blvd.)

After much discussion, the choice of those businesses is probably as good as we could hope for. He is the same guy that bought and re-did the old Happy Dragon into the La Toteca Restaurant on Taylor Road and the warehouse
bldg that he transformed into nice looking office spaces at the corner of Bruce and Taylor. He seems sincere about making sure community friendly establishments go in to this area. In an example, he made concessions to put in fence along the railroad tracks to make the view better for the residents of Cricket Hollow. He is also is putting in a retaining pond to reduce drainage issues.

2. Ref the speed limit proposal
We also had a recent proposal to reduce the speed on Bruce Rd unless a stoplight goes in vic the Crossing and Miars Green entrances. The idea is to have some way to reduce speed or allow traffic to more safely turn onto Bruce toward Taylor.
New neighborhoods, the school traffic with many young drivers, West and East blinding sun, and high speed traffic on that road make it dangerous. With the current speed limit at 45 mph, many cars travel closer to 55. I like the idea of reducing speed, or installing additional traffic lights, but am interested in community support and your thoughts.

3. City Council Elections
On the first Tuesday in May (Friday 2 May this year) the city will hold elections for positions of those having completed 4 years of service. This year it includes the Mayor. Western Branch should have a strong and united voice in support of the election process and any issues that seem of particular importance to us. This would be a good time to mention it
to your neighborhood group and begin to develop interest in hot topic issues of importance to Western Branch.
